Out of the box and extravagant are the words that describe the brand Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan. Started out in 2007, the brand aims to merge Western sensibilities with an Indian Ethos. Thanks to its easy yet edgy and fun fashion approach, Not So Serious is retailed on both Indian as well as International platforms. In India, it is stocked by leading boutiques such as Mogra, Aza, Carma, Ensemble, Coral, Kimaya, Fuel and more. On the international front, it is retailed by boutiques in places like France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Japan, Singapore; including Anthropologie in UK and USA.
Having studied Textile Design from Chelsea College of Art & Design and being the creative force behind the ‘Made in India’ label for Magnolia Martinique; the designer Pallavi Mohan works with numerous international labels such as Roberto Cavalli, John Paul Gaultier, Costume International, Miss Sixty, Pinko, Guess Jeans, Paul & Jo, Valentino Group and John Galliano. This experience gives her an international design sensibility and a keen understanding about the demand and functioning of the industry at a global stage.
Her non-ending knowledge and expertise in fabrics and crafting techniques makes this brand unlike any other. Not So Serious utilizes a variety of fabrics and techniques to provide a vast collection of fresh and new garments yet maintaining the essence of the brand no matter what the theme may be.
Be it the use of gentle pleats, silk, varieties of tulle, airy and comfortable silhouettes in shades of lavender, baby blue, dusty white or more structured garments with laser cut jacquards and leathers as well as use of patterns, motifs, interweaving and multiple other techniques; where intricate artistry is made to merge with sophisticated color palettes for fun, new and fresh fusions for fashion.
Not So Serious is usually inclined to use materials that are luxurious yet understated like Woollen tweeds, soft velvets, silk organza, satins and much more,
Combining common and familiar silhouettes with different and eye catching surface ornamentation in order to create depth and visual complexity, Not So Serious continues their knack and gift of creating for a beautiful, comfortable yet Avant Garde couture.
